Gee, I wonder if I'm breaking any new ground here...
The entirety of the game wasn't all that bad. The GTGF Sonic stages were just breath-taking to play and considering how the setting took place in different locations scattered across the globe made for a variety of interesting and diverse environments, the bosses were actually pretty fun and frankly quite uniquely designed. The Manta Ray boss has a certain bullet hell element to it. The scarab offered nothing new in it's own design but rather showed off how badass and effortless Sonic's new control scheme could be. The dodging, the quickstep mechanics, simply boosting into it and making it spaz out into a twirling ball of death. The fact that I even remember these bosses is a testament to how memorable they were, often times when a game has elements that are extremely poor it seems that I forget them all together.
Now all we need is for a Mecha Harrison Ford to simply make a cameo and this level is perfection!
As is the case for games like Skyrim where the story was unbelievably nonresistant it's a wonder why I even bothered to beat the main quest. Or a game like Deus Ex: Human Rev. where while the gameplay elements were extrmemely well polished especially for an FPS, the level were designed so you can go about beating the game in so many different ways it was overwhelming, the premise was nice and interesting and...orange. But the characters and actual plot within it was quite honestly terrible and surprisingly, it does try to take itself seriously which is completely absurd! I would have much rather it knew it was cheesy but it didn't and for that reason it falters, but different strokes for different folks. Reminded me a lot of Robocop actually...
I think the Werewolf stages would've been better had they incorporated Knuckles into the fray instead of doing...whatever it is Sonic Team did. I mean Knuckles could easily have his own beat'em up if Sonic Team tried hard enough, the guy is designed for combat, for Pete's sake! And those weird Mr.Fantastic stretchy arm parts in the Werewolf aspect? Well, it's not like Knuckles hasn't ever had disproportionate fists and rambo-like tendencies. It would just be Knuckles beating up badniks to freaking cheesy butt-rap. I dunno about you, but that sounds glorious to me. He'd be a perfect fit for the Werewolf sections. The only things really unjustifiable about the Werewolf parts were the reskinned enemy designs that just get copy and pasted all over the place and the fact that the levels went on for 40 minutes to the final level going for 89 FREAKING MINUTES.
The cheesy butt-rap I mentioned. It's simply absurd and I love it. We need more of this.
Another thing I'd like to see are more Tornado plane missions, we had the one in the game and all it was a Typing of the Dead minigame. Seriously does Sonic Team even realize what they're doing? Do you not understand the missed opportunity here? A Sonic and Tails Tornado Shoot Em UP. The bosses had SHMUP ELEMENTS. You see what I'm getting at here? Sonic Unleashed could have been our Sonic Adventure 3 what with all the unique gameplay mechanics for each character and not even having to divulge into the universally hated other characters. Just use Amy as a damsel-in-distress trope if you so desire. Nobody would mind!
As well as adding to his character having an R-type inspired minigame with Tails and the Tornado would be tremendously appreciated Sonic Team.
Sonic Unleashed is for whatever reason a game that is so widely hated, but I see it as a complete missed opportunity on Sonic Team's part to justify everything that went wrong with Sonic 2006. Seriously I'd love Sonic Unleashed to be revisited again, but they never will, because everybody loves Sonic 3 & Knux and only want Sonic 3 & Knux to happen forever. I do too, but we need fresh blood out here guys. Sonic Adventure 3 was within our grasp and nobody saw it until it was far too late. In closing, we were just...TOO SLOW!!! ...I'll be seeing myself off now.../gunshot
